The Ontario On-Site and Excess Soil Management Regulation, also referred to as the O. Reg 406/19, is a regulation that came into effect in January 2021.
The legislation’s purpose is to verify that the right soil load from a construction went to the right place.
The regulation demands a rigorous sampling and testing of the excess soil from the generating site. The O. Reg 406/19 regulation ensures that other than the testing program, there is good record keeping which is used as due diligence for the stakeholders to ensure that they can effectively handle potential liability regarding the use of Excess Soil and helps in preventing unforeseen costs and delays.
The soil testing process under this regulation includes:
- Assessing the past uses of the soil
- Sampling and analyzing the soil
- Making a soil characterization report
- Excess Soil destination assessment report; and
- The tracking system
The soil sampling, testing, and tracking software can become simpler with SoilFLO- Soil & Load Tracking Software.
The soil tracking software can readily calculate the quantity of the soil re-used, treated, temporarily stored, and how much will be disposed of into landfills.
How Can the Soil Tracking Software Be Helpful?
1. Provides Data Entry and Processing
The software simply lays down the data, both in-kind and volume, regarding the Excess Soil.
It makes it easy to analyze the data about the soil, such as the previous uses, the projected soil mass to be dug out, and other relevant information.
The software facilitates the easy collection, processing, interpretation, and storage of the excess soil data.
2. The Software Provides Timely Notifications and Updates
The soil tracking software offers the user fast, timely updates and notifications regarding the Excess soil.
To get the notifications, the user must have a registered account with a monitoring system that gives you notifications and updates as soon as the load is picked and delivered.
3. The Software Effectively Collects Environmental Data on The Excess Soil
Primarily, most pre-construction soil sampling is centered on just two elements—the geotechnical, which is about gradient qualities and engineering competency.
The second one is hydrogeological, which is used to evaluate the frequency of dewatering needed during the development stages and before the removal of the soil.
With the O.Reg. 406/19, the SoilFLO – Soil & Load Tracking Software makes it easy to sample the soil for an easy determination whether the Excess Soil can be used on-site, repurposed, or moved to off-site dumping.
4. The Software is User-Friendly and Scalable
The software is straightforward, flexible, and easy to use. You can manipulate the system according to your business needs. You don’t need any training to use this software.
Testing the Excess Soil is a statutory requirement under O. Reg 406/19 for the proper managing soil dug from the construction sites. Characterization and documentation of the Excess soil are required. The use of soil testing software such as SoilFLO makes it easy and effective to conduct data management and tracking of the Excess Soil.
