“Polly needs a cracker” was once first utilized in a caricature in 1848 in a satirical mag named The John Donkey.
The phrase “cracker” was once a pun within the mag referring to the biscuit in addition to the boy within the caricature who’s able to crack the parrot.
Later, in 1876 Nabisco (Nationwide Biscuit Corporate) select the word to be their slogan which become very fashionable.
