In an interview with Polygon, director Chris Williams mentioned what went into the making of the primary creature in “The Sea Beast,” the Crimson Bluster, and the real-life animals that the design workforce used as a jumping-off level. “We did a large number of analysis,” he says. “We checked out photographs and videos of sea lions, seals and walruses, and whales, simply to see how they moved and how their body structure made sense [as] creatures that are living within the water — that would move on land, however have been extra at ease within the water. And that pointed us in a definite path.”
