Sometimes making wax melts yourself can save you from a whole lot of troubles. For instance, not all wax melts are considered healthy or safe to be used, and if you are not careful, you might buy an unsafe product.
For example, wax melts made using paraffin wax are not healthy or safe for usage because they emit carcinogenic compounds (i.e., the compounds they emit can cause cancer). While wax melts made from soy wax are better, those made from beeswax are the best.

How to make scented wax melts
Making scented wax melts is simple. The procedure is easy to follow, and pretty much anyone can create one. Continue reading to learn how to make scented wax melts.
Ingredients and equipment
- Natural soy wax
- Silicone mould (you can also use ice cube trays or mini cup liners)
- Essential oils. There are lots to pick from; you can choose Cedarwood essential oil, Vetiver essential oil, or Lavender essential oil
- Slow cooker with a slow cooker liner
- Wax warmer
- Glass measuring cup
Procedure
Step 1: Melt the wax
Start by lining your slow cooker using a slow cooker liner. Alternatively, you can also use scentsy warmer for melting wax. After lining the slow cooker, pour 2 cups of soy wax pellets into the slow cooker. Turn on your slow cooker and allow the wax pellets to melt.
The melting process could take a few hours, so you don’t have to wait around. You can start preparing your essential oils—you can consider adding a blend of essential oils as it doesn’t have to be a single oil.
Step 2: Add the essential oils
Check your slow cooker to see if the soy wax pellets have completely melted. If it has, you can now go-ahead to add your blend of essential oils.
For this guide, however, we’ll be adding 40 drops of lavender, 20 drops of vetiver, and 30 drops of cedarwood essential oils. After adding the essential oils, stir the mixture properly.
Step 3: Pour into a glass cup
After thoroughly stirring the mixture, gently remove the slow cooker liner that carries the melted wax and place it inside a measuring cup.
Step 4: Pour it into a mould
Pour the melted wax mixture into each cavity of the silicone mould or ice cube tray, as the case may be. To make it pouring easier, fold the plastic liner over the lip of the measuring glass cup.
With this recipe, two cups of melted wax melts and 100 drops of essential oils should be able to fill your silicone mould and produce 12 wax melts.
