The History of Airsoft

Airsoft is a military simulation game through and through. Its history dates back to the 70s, when Ichiro Nagata created the first Airsoft gun. Firearms are illegal in Japan, but Airsoft became a fan favorite for players seeking adrenaline-pumping action.

The idea of this sport spread rapidly in Japan. By 1980, these guns were available to the UK public. LS (the company that made airsoft guns available in the UK) sold the guns in part, allowing buyers to assemble their gun themselves before usage.

The popularity of Airsoft crossed shores into America too, and since then, Airsoft arms are now called BB guns. Created by the Daisy BB Company, these guns use more realistic materials than plastic models from Japan. Several spin-offs of the BB gun now feature in Airsoft games in America and other countries.

Airsoft has developed from a Japanese pastime to one of the most sought games worldwide.

Plastic pellets have been in use for Airsoft guns since inception. These pellets are for the safety of gamers and referees but can cause significant discomfort if fired at close range.

Main Rules of Airsoft

No climbing of walls and other man-made structures

Climbing man-made structures could be dangerous for Airsoft players. It is prohibited for any Airsoft player to climb walls, windows, scaffolds, banisters, or any other man-made structure.

No shooting at equipment

Shooting at equipment could disrupt the game. At no point should participants target lights, sound equipment, fog generators, etc.

Safe pointing of weapons

Weapons should not be pointed straight up at all times. Whenever there is no need to fire, your Airsoft gun should be at a 45° downward. Place your weapon at a similar angle to the position where golfers place their clubs.

Shooting safely

Airsoft bullets could fire in excess of 500fps. If you are not careful with Airsoft weapons, they could cause serious damage. Ensure you shoot at the torso area only. All participants must always have their protective vests on at all times to buffer chest shots.

No physical combat or verbal assault

Under no circumstance must any team engage in physical fights or verbal assaults towards opponents. Fights could result in a referee penalize offending members or even ending the match prematurely.

Constant use of eye protection

Protective gear for your eyes like goggles and face shields are a must for an Airsoft match. Projectiles flying at crazy speeds could cause eye issues, so it’s better to protect your sight at all costs.

Respect for surrender

Airsoft rules state that if someone surrenders within 10ft of your position, you don’t need to shoot. Ensure you assess the surrender of your opponent closely before letting down your guard. You don’t want to be caught rifle down by a cunning opponent.

De-chambering your magazine

At the end of every Airsoft match, remove ammo from your weapon. Accidentally firing your weapon could cause injuries, especially at close range. Safely de-chambering your mag from an Airsoft gun keeps everyone around safe.

Types of Matches in Airsoft

Currently, there are four types of Airsoft matches namely:

  • President
  • Capture the flag
  • King of the Hill
  • Team death match

Each Airsoft match has its fair share of twists, making this sport an excellent source of fun for many players.

Night Games in Airsoft

Many newcomers to Airsoft usually want to play this game during the day. However, other experienced players can’t get fun from Airsoft if it isn’t nighttime. Night games are increasingly popular, especially among younger, experienced players.

Conclusion

Playing Airsoft for the first time is sure to get you hooked for life. Airsoft is an exciting adventure everyone should try out. Before playing this game, you need to have a clear path to all its rules and regulations. When you play Airsoft by the rules, you’re sure to enjoy all it has to offer.
