Salesforce joins other Silicon Valley tech titans to announce substantial shifts over how employees should work. The company has declared that 9-to-5 workdays are mortified. It stated that “It does not make sense to expect employees to work an eight hour shift and do their jobs successfully”. Moreover, salesforce will offer flexibility to employees to schedule their daily work order.
Xigem has also played its role for employees as other tech firms such as Facebook and Microsoft, have announced permanent work from home policies in response to the COVID pandemic.
“As we enter a new year, we must continue to go forward with agility, creativity and a beginner’s mind — and that includes how we cultivate our culture. An immersive workspace is no longer limited to a desk in our towers. The 9-to-5 workday is dead and the employee experience is about more than ping-pong tables and snacks” writes Brent Hyder, Salesforce’s chief officer
The maxim of salesforce is that workers need flexibility in order to be successful. Keeping in mind the employees’ feedback, salesforce has decided to enact the following policies to guard the basic rights of employees in a pandemic:
1. Flex
According to policy presented by salesforce, the employees around the globe will start working in their offices for one to three days in week, only when it’s safe and free from COVID. Team collaborations, customer meetings and presentations will be organised in these days. Employers will not compel their employees to work in office for an 8-hour shift. Employees will be granted the facility of scheduling their daily work routine, according to the deadline provided by the client. Salesforce expects most of the employees to fall into this category.
2. Fully Remote
All the employees who have to travel for more than an hour to reach their office or if the work assigned to them does not require to be physically present in an office, will work from home. This facility will be provided for full time work. The employees falling under this category will not have to come into the office except in rare situations or office events.
The objective of this policy is that people who have to pick up their children from schools or those who are taking care of sick family members should not be forced to report to office for work. The removal of strict presence in office requirements will allow salesforce to expand its recruitment of new employees, beyond expensive urban centers like San Francisco and New York.
3. Office Based
The employees falling in this category will be assigned the tasks which require an office location. These staff members will only report to office for three to five days per week. This will be the smallest population of the workforce and it will consist of operators that keep the work space running.
The policies led by salesforce represents the image of a post pandemic, corporate world. It reveals that businesses are unnecessarily spending tremendous amounts of money on building or acquiring real estate. This advanced commencement in work ethic will consist of a hybrid combination of being both, in an office for a few days per week and completely remote for the rest of the time.
Salesforce believes that it is the responsibility of employers to empower their people to perform the job in an efficient way, by forming a schedule which is in the best interest of them and their teams. In order to increase the productivity and quality of work, employers should offer flexibility to their staff.
